our story

Since 1951, the circle interchange has been the retail epicenter of Downtown Towson. Circle East is designed to carry forward that tradition and will become the ultimate destination for fashion, dining, entertainment, work, and leisure.

Since breaking ground in November 2017, to adding Shake Shack, Ethan Allen, Urban Outfitters, and others, Circle East has realized its vision of becoming the focal point in Downtown Towson. The success of its location is rooted in its history.

a generational property

Hutzler Brothers Company was a department store founded in Baltimore in 1858. From its humble beginning as a small dry goods store at the corner of Howard and Clay Streets in Downtown Baltimore, Hutzler’s eventually grew into operating a successful chain of department stores in Maryland. In 1952, after nearly 100 years of operating exclusively at the original site, Hutzler’s opened its first department store in Downtown Towson. The store was originally designed for customers using vehicles rather than pedestrian traffic.
